The Enduring Strength of Green Oak

Green oak settles into a house over decades, growing stronger and more characterful as it seasons within the English landscape.

Mortise, tenon, and hand-turned pegs

Every frame is laid out on the workshop floor and test-fitted before raising. We select FSC-certified English and European green oak specifically for its grain density and structural load-bearing capacity.

Traditional framing practices—chiseling, scribing, and driving hand-turned oak pegs—ensure the structure moves naturally as the wood dries, locking the joints tighter over time.

Glazing & Enclosure

Evaluating topography, natural light paths, and local planning vernacular to position the oak frame perfectly in its landscape.

Master carpenters manually scribe each green oak log, cutting traditional joints that respect the natural curves and character of the wood.

The monumental skeleton of the home is assembled on site, often using traditional block-and-tackle methods alongside modern precision crane work.

Integrating floor-to-ceiling glass and breathable insulation panels between structural oak trusses to create light-flooded modern living spaces.

Material Honesty

Open space should never feel cold; warmth comes from honest timber, stone hearths, and natural light that shifts across the oak throughout the day.
